Green-API WhatsApp API alternative

Green-API alternative: How Whapi.Cloud compares

Green-API and Whapi.Cloud both give you an HTTP REST API with QR login and webhooks on a regular WhatsApp number. Short version: the APIs are close in what they can send and receive. They differ in sandbox limits, some WhatsApp methods, where the IPs live, price, and the extra risk of running Green-API. The detail is on this page, below.

Whapi.Cloud as a Green-API WhatsApp API alternative
WhatsApp automation on a high-risk cloud stack

Your WhatsApp automation should not live on a high-risk cloud

Green-API is a Kazakhstan company. Despite that, they host the product on Yandex.Cloud — and WhatsApp traffic can pass through that same infrastructure in Russia.

Technical: For example, on 10 Nov 2026 Green-API wrote that a Yandex.Cloud network fault stopped messages from sending and arriving, and left numbers unable to connect. On 18 Jun 2026 their own note: 4 hours 10 minutes down — no send, no receive, queues piling up. Those hours are missed chats and a stalled pipeline.

Legal: If your customers are not in Russia, message data there is residency, privacy, and sanctions exposure for you. Separate from that: they sell official WhatsApp Business API next to a regular-number gateway. The official programme can treat that mix as a violation and cut the vendor — the official API, the gateway, or both. Whapi.Cloud does not put the API on a single Yandex region.

When Yandex.Cloud blinks, your Green-API WhatsApp blinks with it

Green-API publishes that Yandex.Cloud network faults return 50X, delay WhatsApp traffic, and leave instances Unauthorized. Whapi.Cloud is diversified across providers — the same incident did not take our API down. Switching is a real retarget (new token and endpoints, about a day on a typical REST bot), not a five-minute rewrite.

Where Green-API and Whapi.Cloud actually differ

WhatsApp features ship here first

Statuses, Channels, Communities, calls — wider surface on one API. Green-API splits engineering across Telegram, MAX (Russian messenger), and official WhatsApp Business API. When WhatsApp changes a method, Whapi.Cloud's WhatsApp-only focus lets the team ship updates on a priority schedule.

Regional proxy, or the world stack

Pin a channel to a region or run the global pool. Green-API’s stack sits on CIS-tied infrastructure, so proxy choice is bounded by where they already run. You still do not buy and rotate addresses yourself — the difference is whether the IP can live near your users. That sits on the WhatsApp number: a far-away or CIS-tied IP raises the ban risk.

Support that opens your code

Public reviews of Green-API describe replies that arrive fast and still do not help — long jargon, sometimes in the wrong language. Their own issue tracker often starts the workaround with «reboot the instance». Whapi support works the payload: which method, what to change, how to ship it.

Regional flat monthly fee per channel

Green-API Developer is free until you outgrow the caps. Paid channels are /month. Whapi.Cloud keeps a forever sandbox and charges /month per live channel.

Green-API or Whapi.Cloud — which hosted API?

Same REST + QR idea. Different sandbox, WhatsApp methods, IPs, partner terms, price, and risk.

Green-API

  • Developer stops at 3 chats and 100 number checks / month

  • Selling official WhatsApp Business API and a regular-number gateway under one vendor — a legal shutdown risk from the official programme (one stack or both)

  • Less stable servers in an unstable region — when that cloud blinks, WhatsApp stops

  • Groups and statuses exist; no Channels API in their docs

  • White label from 50+ channels plus a one-time setup fee

  • Paid channel: /month after the free tier — regional pricing

  • Support that answers fast in jargon and often starts with «reboot the instance»

  • Telegram, MAX (Russian messenger), and official WhatsApp Business API in one catalog — WhatsApp work waits while they split engineering

Whapi.Cloud

  • Forever sandbox: 5 chats, 150 msg/day, 1,000 API requests/month

  • WhatsApp API only — no official Cloud next to the gateway

  • Regional proxy or world stack — IPs can sit near your users (lower ban risk)

  • Channels, Statuses, Communities, calls, polls, media, buttons, catalog, labels

  • White label from 1 channel — standard monthly fee per active channel

  • Active channel: /month per channel — sandbox stays free

  • Support that reads your payload and tells you which method to call

  • One WhatsApp API: updates ship on a priority schedule when WhatsApp changes methods

Green-API vs Whapi.Cloud

Questions before you switch

Choose Whapi when the job is production WhatsApp automation—not a quick spike test. It fits if you need Channels in the API, a free sandbox you can keep (5 chats, 150 messages/day, 1,000 API requests/month), proxy choice for your region, support that actually helps you diagnose and fix issues, white label from one channel, or a WhatsApp-only vendor without official Cloud API sold next to a regular-number gateway. It also fits when reliability matters: compare each provider's public status and outage history and where traffic runs—this page's infrastructure section contrasts Green-API's Yandex.Cloud dependency with Whapi's diversified hosting.
Green-API can be the right tool when your job is try WhatsApp automation with minimal setup and zero spend: the free sandbox (their Developer tier—3 chats, 100 number checks/month) covers the test, you will not ship Channels or Communities, and downtime or a thin support line is an acceptable trade for a smaller bill. You are not betting the business on one cloud region or on mixing official WABA with a gateway from the same vendor—if those risks are out of scope for now, staying on Green-API stays simple.
Same starting point—REST, QR, webhooks on a regular number—but different outcomes. If you must keep messaging live when the host cloud fails, Green-API's published Yandex.Cloud incidents are direct pipeline risk; Whapi spreads infra so one provider fault is less likely to freeze every chat. If your product roadmap includes Channels, calls, or a wider method set, Green-API's docs gap on Channels caps what you can build without switching later. If compliance or partner policy matters, selling official WABA beside a regular-number gateway from one vendor is a documented cut risk on the Green side; Whapi stays on the gateway lane only. If you need help when webhooks break at 2 a.m., the support model differs—Whapi is positioned for hands-on troubleshooting. If you rebrand the API, white-label thresholds differ (50+ channels vs from one channel on Whapi).
Treat it as retargeting the same class of integration: new Whapi base URL and API token, webhooks pointed at Whapi, QR on your number. Map the webhook event names and payload fields your handler already reads to Whapi's equivalents once, in one place (a small adapter or config)—then your business logic stays mostly unchanged. For a typical REST bot, budget about one day, not a full rewrite. Use site chat if you want migration help.
Whapi's free sandbox stays free with no time limit (5 chats, 150 messages/day, 1,000 API requests/month). Green-API's free sandbox is the Developer tier (3 chats, 100 number checks/month)—same idea, different caps. For live channels, Whapi charges /month per active channel; after you outgrow Green-API's free sandbox, paid channels are /month.
On this comparison, Green-API's docs do not list a Channels API; Whapi documents Channels, Statuses, Communities, calls, and a broader set including polls, media, buttons, catalog, and labels.
